The Information for Patients project was set up in 2000 to improve communication between anaesthetists and the public. The Royal College of Anaesthetists worked with the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland to set up working parties of patients, patient representatives and anaesthetists, each working on a different topic. The project also produced the guide book 'Raising the Standard: Information for patients' which sets out good practice for patient information in anaesthesia.

In December 2004 the Professional Standards Committee drew up a set of principle requirements for the development of patient information leaflets, in order to advise trusts who want to develop their own leaflets locally. To view these requirements please click here.

In 2008 the College has reviewed and updated all eleven information leaflets. The College welcomes any suggestions to help us improve the Information for Patients Leaflets.

Should you have any further queries concerning the Leaflets or patient information, then please contact the address or e-mail below. However, please bear in mind that the College is unable to answer enquiries of an individual nature and is only able to respond to enquiries in general terms.
